Every August various cultural events take place in Portaria, like the traditional dance festival and reach their peak with the revival of “Pelion Marriage”, which is a collective try that started in the mid-60s from some inhabitants of the village for the preservation and diffusion of marriage customs in Pelion, just like good old times.

“Pelion Marriage” takes place in the central Square, with the participation of lots of natives, and in front of the two rooms of the groom and bride. The rooms are decorated for the specific custom with old home items from the old mansions of the area. Some of the customs that take place are the sewing of the wedding dress (which is the traditional Pelion wedding costume), “Alevromata”, the presentation of the dowry, the shaving and finally the hang of the groom.
